Community Support Services

Heartfelt Hygiene Kits

Together with our dedicated volunteers and community partners, we provide hygiene kits that include toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products. These basic kits have become a lifeline, as they aren’t just packages of supplies. They represent integrity, dignity, and the power of connection. Meeting these essential human needs is part of fostering and supporting our community.

Nurturing Health and Well-being

Our community faces unique health challenges, primarily due to a lack of access to basic healthcare. Most of our friends rarely see a doctor or dentist due to financial and transportation barriers. But, together with our partner organizations, we’ve brought health screenings, blood pressure checks, and even HIV and STI screenings to our community.  And when it comes to medical services, behavioral health support, and substance abuse referrals, we can connect people to these life-saving resources.

Document Assistance for Housing, Food & Employment

We help our clients secure essential documents like birth certificates,  ID’s, and social security cards.  With these documents, our clients can apply for housing, jobs, and  other support services. We connect clients to housing opportunities, whether it’s in a shelter, a rooming house, or permanent supportive housing. We also assist with food stamp applications, a vital necessity for those living below the poverty line. 

Youth Empowerment (each Saturday morning at the HDCC)

Saturday mornings at the HDCC are a source of joy and inspiration. For two precious hours each week, children step into a haven of creativity and imagination. Our dedicated volunteers lead them in activities like watercoloring, music, and crafts, providing a safe space away from the challenges they may face at home or school.
 

Kids’ Events

Back-to-School Backpacks

Our annual Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway ensures a positive start to the academic year for our kids. Backpacks filled with essential school supplies alleviate the financial burden on families and empower kids with the tools they need for academic success.

Holiday Gift Giving and Grab Bags

The Holiday Gift Giving Event brings joy to our kids by providing carefully curated gifts and other goodies. Through the generosity of our supporters, we create memorable celebrations, not just for kids, but for entire families. By distributing themed grab bags filled with treats, toys, and lots and lots of candy, our kids always enjoy a fun-filled Halloween and Easter!!
